New outdoor adventure business helps Middlesbrough under-18 squad

A former PE teacher has turned his love for the outdoors into a new adventurous business.

Neil Travis previously worked as head of the sports department at Castle View Enterprise Academy in Sunderland, but has now launched his own business called Discover Edventure.

The 54-year-old entrepreneur founded the business to get North East schools, clubs, communities and businesses taking part in adventurous activities.

Sunderland woman launches pet-sitting service with a difference

A scientist has recently launched a pet-sitting service with a difference.

Helen Glenwright has created Cosy Chameleon, a pet-sitting and boarding service in Sunderland which not only cares for common household pets like cats, but also reptiles including tortoises and snakes.

The new business – which had its name inspired by Helen’s pet chameleon called Neil – allows for pets to be looked after in the comfort of their own home or at Helen’s residence.

Trio of engineers launch Triotech

A GROUP of experienced engineers have capitalised on redundancy to launch a high-end manufacturing business.

The new Washington-based firm, Triotec, was recently born out of 70 years of combined experience from its directors: Andrew Calvert, Gary Marshall and David Downes after their time at a North East manufacturing firm came to an end.

Spotting a shortage in the market for skilled machinists, they sought start-up advice from the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) in Sunderland

Boss welcomes business expansion

A BUSINESS boss is celebrating the expansion of his accountancy firm.

Launched in 2016, Lyons Watson Accountants – which offers financial management and business support services to North-East firms – has grown quickly.

It has now moved to bigger premises in Darlington’s Business Central development, giving the firm the opportunity for further expansion in the future.

Kids' creative company Geo Journey strikes gold with major mums' website

A company which takes children on an educational trip around the world with themed gift packs is gearing up for growth after winning a coveted MadeForMums award.

Geo Journey aims to inspire children to learn about the world throughly monthly parcels, starting with an initial explorer kit of a suitcase, travel journal, passport map and activities.

Now the Sunderland business, run by Christina Armstrong and her sister Fiona Waistell, has won the MadeForMums gold award for best subscription box/s
